FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ControlPoint?

ControlPoint is a Warehouse Control System (WCS). It connects your warehouse management system to the equipment on your floor like conveyors, sorters, scanners, and more. ControlPoint provides you with one real-time view of everything moving through your facility. It's built and supported by Systems Automated, the same engineers who design and install your conveyor system.

Can ControlPoint connect with our WMS and equipment?

ControlPoint connects on both sides of your operation:

WMS integrations: Extensiv, Ramp, Camelot, SAP, Manhattan, Microsoft Dynamics, Infor, Blue Yonder, Cadence, ShipHero, Oracle via SQL, REST API, or socket/HTTP messaging, whichever fits your system.

Equipment/PLC integrations: Rockwell/Allen-Bradley PLCs (Systems Automated is a Rockwell Silver Integrator), Ethernet/IP, and OPC-UA with automatic connection monitoring and real-time I/O status down to the device level.

How is ControlPoint different than a WMS?

A WMS tells your warehouse what to do: receiving, put-aways, order fulfillment, inventory. ControlPoint makes sure it actually happens on the floor. It sits between your WMS and your equipment, translating business orders ("ship order #123") into real-time equipment commands ("motor on," "divert," "route") and reporting status back up. ControlPoint doesn't replace your WMS; it's the execution layer that carries out the plan, in real time, across every conveyor, scanner, and sorter. It can even run advanced routing logic on its own if there's no WMS in place.

How are customers using ControlPoint?

Typical use cases include:

  • Shipping lane assignment by carrier, destination, or route
  • Sortation control for high-speed sorters
  • Pick-to-conveyor coordination
  • Put-to-pallet operations with on-screen routing
  • Automated merge control across multiple lines
  • Label and print automation
  • Exception and jam recovery, flagged before they back up the line
  • Real-time throughput and staffing decisions
  • Product tracking and shipment history lookup

How is ControlPoint different from other warehouse control systems?

Most enterprise WCS platforms (Körber, Dematic, Honeywell Intelligrated, Cimcorp, EPG, and similar) are built by the software division of a large automation OEM with implementation services layered on top, and often optimized for large, complex, multi-vendor equipment fleets.

ControlPoint takes a different approach:

  • Built and supported by the same team that installs your conveyor system
  • Right-sized for mid-market manufacturers and distribution centers
  • Web-based, browser-accessible software
  • Can run without a WMS and handle advanced routing/decision logic on its own
  • Tiered hypercare support (Bronze/Silver/Gold) delivered by the people who built the system, not a distant support desk.

How is ControlPoint implemented?

Implementation runs in three steps:

  • Discovery & Design — review requirements, design custom screens and dashboards, review samples before build
  • Build & Validate — test ControlPoint-to-PLC and ControlPoint-to-WMS communication offsite, validate performance before touching your floor
  • Deploy & Support — on-site installation, staff training, and ongoing hypercare support (Bronze/Silver/Gold tiers)

What support plans do you offer?

We offer six support plan tiers: Bronze, Silver, and Gold provide Remote Emergency Support at increasing levels of coverage and speed. Platinum, Titanium, and Diamond include everything in Gold plus ongoing scheduled maintenance (semi-annual, quarterly, and monthly, respectively).
